Activity 1: How Occupational Health and Safety is managed
The first Activity involves getting the organisation ready to start the tasks and establishing a framework in which to work. It is important this foundation is established; otherwise this can affect the success of the whole development and implementation process. This means making someone responsible for the project and ensuring everyone is the organisation knows what you are about to do and why.

Activity 2: Defining Policy, Objectives and Measures
Key to the implementation of an effective OH&S management system is the need to identify the hazards and their associated risks, legal and other requirements, classify the risks, define health and safety objectives, establish activities to support the achievement of these objectives and implement regular measurement and review mechanisms.

Activity 3: Building the OH&S Management System
This Activity is intended to reflect what is currently happening in the organisation, and to look at what will be needed in the OH&S Management System being developed. This Activity will also start putting controls on the documented system as it is developed.

Activity 4: Developing the OH&S Manual
The aim of this activity is to prepare the structure and content of an OH&S Manual for the organisation’s OH&S management system. The key output of which will be the completed OH&S manual.

Activity 5: Identifying and Writing Documentation
This activity provides the fundamental tools and methodology for developing the remaining OH&S management system documentation (i.e. procedures, support documents, forms, etc.) based on the framework and detail developed in Activity 3.

Activity 6: Implementing the System
The aim of Activity 6 is to fully implement the OH&S management system documentation, which has been developed in Activities 4 and 5, and the OH&S objectives, management programmes and associated measures initially developed in Activity 2.

Activity 7: Review and Improvement
Once the Internal Audits have been completed the performance of the whole OH&S management system can be reviewed for suitability and effectiveness. The benefits should also begin to be measured. The aim of Activity 7 is to establish those review and improvement disciplines, which will enable this to happen, and hence provide the basis for ongoing and continuous improvement of the OH&S management system.
