The current pandemic of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, brings challenges regarding waste management practices and procedures while adopting safety and health measures for employees, waste treatment requirements and general procedures.
Also, there is an urgent need for measures to be put in place for proper disposal of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including protective suits, gloves, masks, and other waste from industries, medical facilities or clinics through appropriate CBMWTFs. Also, there is a requirement for proper segregation of hazardous household waste, and its subsequent management through Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage and Disposal Facilities (HWTSDFs) via urban local bodies.
The online session would discuss the measures to be adopted for segregation, handling, treatment and final disposal of different types of bio-hazard waste generated due to preventive measures being adopted by institutions while restarting the operation post COVID-19.
