Development theory has come a long way over the last century. It began with focus on economic growth and development and eventually has reached a stage where researchers, governments, and academia are looking at more holistic patterns of living than mere growth. Sustainable development, eventually, has become the most important notion of the day, and provides a more comprehensive definition of development, linking up ecological services and quality of life with economic growth. Such a paradigm shift in a phase of less than a century is no less than a revolution. The onus is upon the UN to replace the Millennium Development Goals with Sustainable Development Goals. “Change yourself, instead of changing the environment to suit your needs.” Amity School of Economics takes this up for India in particular under the “Make in India” mission of Hon. Prime Minister and is organizing a two day National Conference on “Sustainable Development in India: Economic Issues and Policy Initiatives” in collaboration with CII-ITC, a center for Sustainable Development.
