CII-CESD, in collaboration with MoEFCC and Maharashtra State Wetland Authority along with Godrej & Boyce, Pirojsha Godrej Foundation, WWF India, GIZ and Wetlands International South Asia organized its first national workshop of India Wetland Coalition (IWC) on 30th June 2023 in Thane, Mumbai with the objective to explore the possibilities of developing multi-stakeholder partnership matrix and convergence for wetlands conservation with special reference to AmritDharohar.
The workshop started with site visit to Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary a #Ramsar site where the business members and participants from MoEFCC and State Wetland Authorities were taken around the interpretation centre and other facilities available at site. Wetland Managers from State Wetland Authorities presented their work on interpretation centres, their best practices and challenges faced by them focusing on three components of Amrit Dharohar (wetland ecotourism, wetland livelihood and species & habitat conservation). The participants brainstormed on possibilities and opportunities on how businesses can partner with states on wetland conservation, especially Ramsar
sites.
Mr Sujit Bajpayee, Joint Secretary, MoEFCC and Dr SV Ramarao, APCCF & Mangrove Cell Head along with wetland managers of eight State Wetland Authority attended the workshop and shared plans for wetland management. Godrej & Boyce, Cipla, Tata Power, Adani Electricity, JSW Cement, Himadri Energy represented the business sector.
