Instituted by CII in 2018 aims at building climate resilience in Indian businesses. The major tracks of the programme are:

CII Climate Change Council – Led by Industry

Since its inception in 2016 being chaired by Mr. Jamshyd N. Godrej, Chairman and Managing Director, Godrej & Boyce. Council holds responsibility for policy advocacy on climate change issues.
There are 3 working groups running under the Council:


1. National Carbon Market


2. Industry inputs towards the development of State Action Plans on Climate Change


3. Decarbonization Pathways for Hard-to-Abate Sectors

CII-Certified Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Accounting & Management Training Program

Aims to bring standardization in corporate GHG reporting as per global norms and get more companies interested. The course covers development of GHG emission inventory, development of GHG reduction projects and their validation/verification as per ISO 14064 (Part 1, 2 & 3) setting targets, preparing roadmap for decarbonization.

Provided to industry on preparing GHG inventory, carbon sequestration and GHG footprint reduction plan, setting reduction targets, risk mapping due to climate change etc. Many, small and medium industries availed benefit of the services.

International Platforms

1. CII participated in UNFCCC COP27 and discussed the importance of industry efforts on climate action and contribution to India’s NDCs (Nationally Determined Contributions).

2. Under India’s G20 presidency and CII being the B20 Secretariat, the Centre led the work on framing policy briefs under the Taskforce on Energy, Climate Change and Resource Efficiency.

About intervention

CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development looks at climate change as a strategic risk to business and offers services related to reducing business’s vulnerability to climate change via, climate change risk and opportunity assessment services, GHG inventorization, carbon neutrality services and sequestration study.

Our focus is on providing clients with progressive service offerings that are tailored to their requirements based on their demography, sector, and recent global cues.

The principles, standards, guidelines, methodologies and tools used to provide these services are globally accepted, tested over time, and are updated on a continual stakeholder feedback process.

Impact Stories

In the first cycle of the Climate Action Programme 2.0° around 20 large corporates and 50 SMEs participated. The applicant with highest score from each sector was recognized by a non-industry-based Jury in CII Climate Leadership Conference and Awards Ceremony on 1 st August 2019 using CII’s climate maturity model.
CII- Certified CAP 2.0° Assessor Training is a capacity building initiative taken up by CII-CESD in 2018 and trained approximately 20 industry professionals in 2019.
CII-Certified Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Accounting & Management Training Programme: This programme has built the capacity of more than 26 professionals in 2019.
