DMRC Case Study:

Organisations cannot control energy prices, government policies or the global economy, but they can improve the way they manage energy within the organisation. Improved energy performance can provide rapid benefits for an organisation by maximizing the use of its energy
sources and energy-related assets, thus reducing both energy cost and consumption. In line with this strategy, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has ensured that all their stations and trains are at their efficient best with the latest available technology. To ensure that one of the most indispensable sources of nature is efficiently utilised, it is required to have best Energy Management Systems (EnMS-ISO 50001) designed, established and implemented to operate and maintain assets seamlessly. DMRC decided to implement EnMS for 150+ metro stations in their network and is one of the world’s first and only Mass Rapid Transportation System with the EnMS certification. EnMS required initial diagnostics activity to identify the gap between present activities and actions required to manage the system as per the standard. Energy Policy and Energy Review /Analysis, the most important activities, were performed at each station level. Comprehensive awareness trainings, internal auditors’ trainings, regular interactions and
internal audits were carried out while implementing this system along with the respective officers at stations.
